MR. ROBERTSON is a highly-accomplished trial and transactional lawyer with over 30 years of experience. He has conducted nearly 100 trials with a success rate of over 90%, and has obtained many Multi-Million-Dollar jury verdicts. His courtroom skills have been widely recognized, and he has therefore been repeatedly elected Chairman of the Board for the Western Trial Lawyers Association. How many lawyers can say they won over a Million Dollars in their very first jury trial? Mr. Robertson’s first jury trial nearly 30 years ago resulted in a verdict of over One Million Dollars (actually $1.3 Million), which was upheld on appeal and paid in full. Since then, Mr. Robertson has built on that first success – obtaining multiple paid verdicts of over Ten Million Dollars ($10,000,000.00), one jury verdict in excess of Fifteen Million Dollars ($15,000,000.00), which amount was also paid in full, and he settled a recent case against the State of Nevada for over Twenty Million Dollars ($20,000,000.00). Besides this long history of courtroom victories, Mr. Robertson is also known as one of the top real estate and water law attorneys in the State of Nevada. In 2012, he handled one of the largest real estate transactions to ever occur in the history of Nevada. Representing the buyer, Mr. Robertson negotiated and closed a purchase transaction in under 90 days — even though that complex deal involved over 800,000 acres of land, 400,000 acres of mineral rights and geothermal rights, and over 50,000 acre-feet of surface and underground vested, permitted and adjudicated water rights.

MR. ROBERTSON is a partner admitted to the state bars of Nevada and California as well as the United States Supreme Court, United States District Courts for the District of Nevada, Northern District of California and Eastern District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. Mr. Robertson received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of San Diego with honors where he published a law review article regarding a controversial water-related treaty.

MR. ROBERTSON began his legal career when he was chosen from hundreds of applicants to be a law clerk for the Honorable Bruce R. Thompson, Senior United States Federal District Judge for the District of Nevada from 1983-1985. While clerking for Judge Thompson, Mr. Robertson gained additional expertise in water-related issues, including Truckee and Carson River water rights, due to Judge Thompson overseeing the Orr Ditch Decree and preparing the Alpine Decree. As a result, Mr. Robertson is now widely recognized as an experienced water rights practitioner who frequently appears before the Nevada State Engineer’s Office, the Nevada State District Courts, the Federal District Courts and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals in water-related matters.

Although Mr. Robertson normally represents businesses and corporations, he particularly enjoys representation in his areas of personal interest. For example, as an airplane and helicopter pilot, Mr. Robertson has a keen interest in aviation and has represented numerous parties relating to aircraft matters. In addition, Mr. Robertson is also a member of a national organization that encourages safe motorcycle riding. As a result, Mr. Robertson has represented many motorcyclists who have been injured by the negligence of others.

MR. ROBERTSON is currently a member of the Washoe County Bar Association, the Western Trial Lawyers Association, the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Nevada Justice Association, the American Association of Justice and the Tahoe-Truckee Bar Association. Mr. Robertson’s legal career also involves a substantial public service commitment. He has frequently served as a pro tem judge (1988 – present) and has been appointed to numerous political and legal committees, including the Nevada Natural Resources Committee (2006 – present), the Nevada State Bar Disciplinary Committee (2005 – present), the Nevada State Bar Standing Committee on Judicial Ethics and Election Practices (2008 – present), the Nevada State Bar Lawyer Referral and Information Service (2004 – present) and the Washoe County Bar Association Technology Committee (Chairman 1997 – 2000). He currently sits as a director on several corporate boards for aircraft-related companies and is currently counsel to the Squaw Valley Ski Corporation, which owns and operates the world’s largest privately-owned ski resort (Squaw Valley, U.S.A.). He has also received multiple awards for his volunteer work with non-profit organizations, including service for two local churches.
